The future of Brazilian midfielder, Lucas Leiva, at Liverpool has been under lots of speculation, especially during this January transfer window knowing that his current deal will end at the end of season.

However, following his winning goal in The Reds’ FA Cup victory over Plymouth this midweek, manager, Jurgen Klopp insisted that the 30 year old midfielder isn’t going anywhere this month.

Although admitting that nothing is certain regarding the transfer market, but the former Borussia Dortmund boss is confident that Lucas won’t be leaving Anfield during the current winter window.

Despite not having much playing time, Klopp praises his veteran midfielder, saying that Lucas remain an important asset for Liverpool this season.

Moreover, the tactician also added that he was actually surprised knowing how long since the former Gremio player hadn’t score.

Klopp said that Lucas has always shown excellent quality, including goal scoring ability during training, so it shouldn’t be a surprise to see him on the score sheet.

Obviously, it’s a refreshing compliment from the German regarding the Brazilian defensive midfielder, but it remain to be seen on whether he will eventually stay or even extend his contract at Anfield.

Signed since the 2007/2008 season, Lucas has been spending quite a long time with Liverpool and has received plenty of affection from the local fans.

However, considering his age and lack of playing time, it’s reasonable to expect the midfielder looking for a different future somewhere else.
