Argentina’s failure in winning their third World Cup trophy really left a bitter taste for Lionel Messi as Albiceleste skipper revealed that not even his success in getting the tournament’s best player award can console him.
Speaking to FIFA, Messi shouted his disappointment saying, “Right now, nothing can console me – not the award or anything else. Our only goal was to take home the World Cup and enjoy our victory with everyone in Argentina. We deserved a bit more after the game we played, and it was very painful to lose that way,”
It was a disappointing outcome indeed for Messi and co as their relentless effort was outdone by Mario Goetze’s extra time goal, which didn’t give enough time for Albiceleste to get things on track especially with such tired physical condition.
Furthermore, Messi also rues the missed chances that his team had in that game as he believes although German had more ball possession, Argentina create better clear chances throughout that match.
“Although they had more of the ball, we had the clearer chances, but those of us up front failed to convert them,” Messi added.
