Losing the Super Cup apparently won’t be the only disappointment felt by Barcelona this week as they now won’t be able to field their star defender, Gerard Pique for the upcoming four matches in La Liga.
Pique was given that ban following his insult towards the assistant referee during the second leg of Spanish Super Cup tie against Athletic Bilbao at Camp Nou.
The defender was apparently seen shouting unpleasant words towards the official, which led to him being red carded in that match.
After reviewing the match report along with video evidence, Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) decided that the center back deserved four-match ban which also applicable in La Liga.
The defender still has an opportunity to reduce that punishment as there’s a 10 days time limit being given to the player should he wants to make an appeal.
