Arsenal’s Top Four Hunt Still Alive and Well After Win Over Saints
Arsenal’s hope to get themselves back into that top four finish this season is far from over as Arsene Wenger’s men picked up another important victory this midweek.
Playing one of their left over games, Gunners were able to defeat Southampton 2-0 at St Mary’s stadium.
Strongly motivated by their victory over Manchester United few days ago, Wenger’s boys seemingly putting on a more confident display away from home.
Nevertheless, it was not easy to break down Saints’ defense, especially during the first 45 minutes which saw that tie ended in goalless draw.
After the break, both teams tried to push harder in search for goals and it was Gunners that got that important break through when Alexis Sanchez scored on 60 minutes.
That opener made things easier for the visitor as they eventually netted their second seven minutes from time thanks to Olivier Giroud’s effort.
Certainly an important win for Arsenal as it put them fifth in current standings three points behind fourth place Manchester City.
Gunners are also just four points behind third seat Liverpool and both Wenger’s men and Man City have played one game less than Jurgen Klopp’s side.
