Arsenal Lift Community Shield Trophy After Shoot Out Win Over Chelsea
Arsenal got themselves topping their city rival, Chelsea once again at Wembley stadium as after Gunners’ FA Cup win at the end of last season, Arsene Wenger’s men defeated Antonio Conte’s boys in the Community Shield battle.
It was another tight cup battle between the two London based outfit as despite being labeled as a preseason opener, both managers were determined in beating each others, triggering a tight contest since the first minutes.
Neither sides were able to score any goals though during the first 45 minutes, but soon after the restart, it was Chelsea that got themselves in front through Victor Moses’s close range finish from inside the penalty area.
Gunners tried hard to get back on level terms and their efforts were finally rewarded, but not before their opponent got reduced to 10 men as Pedro was sent off for his clumsy tackle.
From the resulting free kick, Wenger’s boys were able to snatch that equalizing goal, thanks to their summer signing, Sead Kolasinac, who finished off the dead ball delivery and made it 1-1.
Since no more goals were scored until the end of 90 minutes, that tie went straight to penalties, which saw Arsenal converting all of their spot kicks, while The Blues missed two of them as both Thibaut Courtois along with new signing, Alvaro Morata failed to score.
