Arsenal continuing their positive Europa League run as they grabbed a hard fought 1-0 away win over Red Star Belgrade on Thursday.
Keen on redeeming their disappointing Premier League defeat last weekend, Gunners tried to put an aggressive display since kick off, despite not playing most of their regular starters.
It was not an easy task though for Arsene Wenger’s side, as their opponent were able to showcase strong display and also caused problems for Gunners’ back line in several occasion.
After a goalless first 45 minutes, both sides tried to increase their efforts in the second period, but neither sides looked capable of breaking each others defense.
Just when the match looked to be ending in a goalless draw, lady luck swung into Arsenal’s favor as Olivier Giroud struck a lovely but rather bizzarre goal five minutes from time.
It was difficult for the home side to get back on level terms as five minutes before Giroud’s goal, Red Star found themselves down to 10 men following Milan Rodic’s sending off.
Meanwhile, Everton continue to struggle on their European road as Ronald Koeman’s men stumble into their second defeat in the competition after being beaten 2-1 by Lyon.
The home side didn’t have a great start as they were one goal down after just six minutes through Nabil Fekir’s spot kick.
Koeman’s men were able to draw level though on 69 minutes, but soon afterwards, the visitor regained their lead, this time with an effort from Bertrand Traore.
