Sunderland's ambition in getting themselves away from that bottom three seat of English Premier League standings suffered another blow as they were beaten by West Ham on Monday.
The home side didn't have a bright start on that tie as their opponent got in front after just nine minutes through Andy Carroll's effort.
That one goal lead gave more confidence for West Ham as they kept on pushing forward vigorously, before eventually doubling their advantage with a goal from Mohamed Diame on 50 minutes.
Sunderlad tried their best in getting back into the tie, but all the managed was to pull one back through Adam Johnson on 65 minutes.
Although there's still enough time to snatch an equalizing goal, The Black Cats failed to break down West Ham in the remaining minutes of that tie.
