Sheffield Wednesday's ambition to improve their current position in current England Championship standings was halted this midweek as they suffered a thumping against Wigan Athletic. Playing in front of their loyal home crowd, Sheffield failed to take control of that encounter as it was Wigan that stole the show as they got in front after 31 minutes through Nicky Maynard's effort and seven minutes later, Maynard completed his double with another effort.
Taking a pretty comfortable two goals lead during the first 45 minutes didn't stop Wigan from pushing forward as they successfully added a third one through a late goal from Marc Antoine Fortune. That win brighten the away side's chance in competing for that play offs spot by the end of this current season as they're not far away for that sixth place seat.
