Legendary Arsenal manager George Graham said Arsene Wenger is best not to copy Barcelona’s blueprint for success. Massive questions were raised over the Gunners’ title tilt last weekend after they capitulated to a 3-1 defeat at home against fellow challengers Manchester United. Wenger has refused to ditch his side’s attacking style – despite failing to win a trophy in four seasons.
And ex-boss Graham believes the Frenchman’s desire to win the title without abandoning his principles has grown after watching Barca win SIX trophies – including the Champions League – last season by refusing to curb their own attacking instincts. He said: “Arsene is a great believer in total football and I think he is a great admirer of Barcelona.
Whether Arsenal can do a Barcelona in English football… there’s a big question mark over that. I think Arsene Wenger loves the way Barca play and I think he wants Arsenal to evolve in that way. Even a draw with Chelsea would be a great result for Arsenal. I can see Arsenal having a run again, like they did before, against the weaker teams. It wouldn’t surprise me if Chelsea and United drop more points.”
