56′GOL! – Barcelona 1-0 Real Madrid -Barcelona are ahead and it is the substitute Ibrahimovic who scores a stunning effort. Alves lifts a high ball to the far post and the Swede volleyed into the bottom corner on the run.Barcelona 1-0 Real Madrid
Manuel Pellegrini couldn’t hide his disappointment stemming from the final score, but he was pleased with his team’s effort.
“I am evidently not very satisfied. I never enjoy losing, but I am pleased with the way we played. We had possession and knew what we wanted to do in attack. We had many chances, but we weren’t patient enough when it came time to finish. Unfortunately the match came down to one single play.”
“We know how Barcelona like to play. They want to hold onto the ball, but they were up against a Real Madrid that was better than them in many facets of the game. I think we at least deserved a draw. We had more chances than they did, especially in the first half. They scored in the second half, but we also had our opportunities.”
“I don’t think the team every deflated. We were very physical, which is why Barcelona had trouble when they had the ball. What happened towards the end was a result of us not finishing the way we should have and relying on long balls to attack in a more direct manner.”
“Cristiano Ronaldo could only play a maximum of 60 minutes. Had he played more would have been rash. I think he played all he could and that we made the right changes. Regarding Higuain and Benzema, both had the chance to help the team. Pipa started because he has been in great form of late.”
“We are proud of our effort and sacrifice but sad to have lost” Realmadrid.com
Albiol, Sergio Ramos and Marcelo analyzed the Clasico in the Camp Nou after the match.
Albiol:
“We played a great match regardless of the final score. A draw would have been the most fair outcome. We weren’t able to capitalize when they were down to ten men. We know we played well and that we can do even better. Our first half was great. It had been a while since Barcelona struggled the way they did.”
“We know we could have earned a better result. We must grow as a team, but it isn’t easy with so many new players. We will continue to improve and today we showed that we are a tough team to beat.”
Sergio Ramos:
“We are proud of our effort and sacrifice but sad to have lost. These matches are decided by small details, and we didn’t take advantage when we had the chance. They did. It’s time to turn the page. We are confident knowing that we played well and that we tried our best.”
Marcelo:
“We played well but weren’t lucky. It’s a shame, but I think we played very well. All that matters in football is earning three points, and we today we didn’t do that. We want to continue playing like we did tonight because this is how victories are earned.”
“We are mad about the outcome, but I think it was our most complete match of the seaosn. We must continue playing like this. We had some good chances that we weren’t able to finish.”
XABI ALONSO
“I feel like we could have done better. We deserved more. We had more chances, especially in the first half. It’s a shame.”
“It was a neck and neck battle from start to finish. Perhaps they had more possession, but we had better opportunities. They didn’t feel comfortable on the pitch. It’s a pity we couldn’t score first because I am sure the outcome would have been much different.”
“We played close together and knew how to move the ball quickly in attack, but all we missed out on was a goal. It was an important match, but it wasn’t decisive. There is a long season ahead and each match is another step towards the goal. Now we must focus on Almeria.”
CASILLAS
“We had many chances. Cristiano Ronaldo had a bunch in the first half, but we lacked accuracy. The final score is unfair. We deserved a draw.Barcelona capitalized with a great strike by Ibrahimovic.”
