Aston Villa at Tottenham Hotspur

The North American sporting world is eagerly awaiting the opening kickoff of one biggest events of the year: Super Bowl XLIV. Peyton Manning leads the Indianapolis Colts against the New Orleans Saints, and the Super Bowl line favors the AFC Champs.  Across the pond, however, sports fans are following their own football matches.

Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa take the field in pivotal matchup in the Barclay’s English Premier League. Only two points separate fourth place Tottenham and seventh place Villa in a very crowded table. Liverpool and Manchester City sit at fifth and sixth respectively with 41 ones each. All these teams have a shot to make in into the top four, but a lose here, and Villa’s hopes will take a severe blow.

Villa is coming off a big 2-0 win on the road against Fulham.  The match saw English striker Gabriel Agbonlahor net the two goals to give Villa much needed three points to keep pace. Their schedule has not been easy, but the Villains have played strong despite a myriad of injuries. Last week they upset Arsenal in a 0-0 draw at Villa Stadium. Last week’s win over Fulham capped a month in which Villa did not lose one match. The Villains hope to continue their strong play leading up to next’s week match against Manchester United.

Some more good news for the Villains will give them an added offensive attack. Striker John Carew looks to return from a knee injury, and Stephen Warnock is hopeful as well.

The Spurs meanwhile are coming off a disappointing draw to Birmingham, missing a good opportunity to try and break away from the pack. They have also seen a shakeup in their locker room, as Robbie Keane has been loaned to the Scottish League, leaving a hole for his teammates to fill.  Tottenham hasn’t lost an Engligh Premier match since early December, a string of eight games. Saturday’s match against Aston Villa will be one of the toughest matches in quite some time.

Betting Lines

Tottenham:      +110

Villa:               +240

Tottenham has played strong of late and looks to continue their successful ways against a banged up Villains club.  At home in White Hart Lane, Tottenham has excelled this year, winning eight, drawing one, and losing only three.  The betting lines are available, and the Spurs are the favourite at home. Don’t underestimate the Villains, however. They have played well in their last few matches, and are surely uplifted by their successes. They are getting healthier and have boast a good road record in the Premiership.

The NFL Super Bowl garners a lot of bets, but if you are playing American football and European football, be sure to have some sound betting management skills. The Colts, Peyton Manning, and Aston Villa are all riding strong momentum and look poised to snatch victory.
