Unfortunately in modern day football, quality does not come cheap and that could not be truer with City’s latest acquisition. The club took their spending to new heights yesterday by completing a deal for Sergio Aguero which will cost a sensational £90 million over the next five years. They paid Atletico Madrid £38 million for the striker and Aguero’s five year contract, which is worth more than £200,000 a week, will set the club back another £52 million. The 23-year-old however believes he is worth the money and stated, ‘I think like a giant, think like a winner’.

The deal ranks second in all-time British signings, only to the £50 million Chelsea paid Liverpool to secure Fernando Torres in January. It eclipses the £32.5 million City paid Real Madrid for Robinho three years ago and the club hope they receive a better return for their money than the Brazilian provided. Aguero has insisted he is ready to prove himself in England having scored more than 100 La Liga goals in five years in Spain.

Aguero also stated that he spoke with ex-Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano before making the move. He said, ‘I spoke to Mascherano a lot, about Champions League football and about the Premier League when he was with Liverpool. The best Premier League striker I’ve seen, and by a long way, is Didier Drogba at his most powerful – and Torres isn’t far behind’. The latest news can be found at
